TX816 Controller
With this project, I ventured far deeper into uncharted territory than I had originally planned. My initial goal was simply to reuse the hardware design of the VL1 controller and create a unified interface for editing the iconic FM parameters of each of the eight DX7 modules.
However, the journey quickly evolved. I began exploring macro editing, which introduced a transformative way to adjust multiple operator parameters simultaneously with a single knob turn—unlocking a new level of control and creative expression.
This led to the idea of extending macros across all eight modules, which in turn brought me to the concept of Component Synthesis. Eventually, I also delved into experiments with Additive Resynthesis, pushing the boundaries even further. See my YT video here:
And here my video which explains the Controller in depth. Also you will find the User Manual on this web site.
I love this. Are you planning to manufacture a small batch?
Hi there, please see my response sent to your email.
This is amazing! How many do you plan to make?
I have a TX-816 AND FS1R.
I love that you have a Centennial! I also have a DX-7, DX-5, SY77, and even an OPL synth (PSS-780). I also have one of Yamaha’s old BBD Reverbs.
Thanks Riccardo,
I still have a few sets of PCBs left. Once they’re used up, that’s it.
Can you please send me info? I’m interested in buying one if available!
I live in Austin TX USA
Hi Eliu,
please see my PM.
This is absolutely amazing!
Currently I am using midiquest to program my tx816..my studio is 2x emu emaxs and a tx816..why do I love 12 bit so much? Hehe
Please let me know if you are willing to sell me a pcb?
Just fantastic! Thankyou
You can get the set of 3 PCBs. You need the front panel and the firmware as well. And the knowledge how to wire these things correctly.
